Former TCU Stand out DB, Jason Verrett, very high on the Broncos Draft Board

Jason Verrett high on Denver Broncos’ NFL Draft list for Mel Kiper Jr.

Mel Kiper Jr.’s rapid-fire conference call featured 80 writers and questions about every team on Wednesday. I elbowed my way in with the help of the +ESPN PR folks, asking Kiper who he thought would fit the Broncos at the 31st pick in the first round.

He believes +TCU cornerback Jason Verrett could be the selection, given the +Denver Broncos’ lacking depth in the secondary. At 5-foot-9, 189 pounds, he might not fit the Broncos’ profile. They are leaning toward bigger corners. Kyle Fuller, at 6-foot, 194 pounds, would make sense, but likely won’t be available.

The Broncos’ dream pick would be cornerback Justin Gilbert, it seems. But he will be long gone. Denver signed free agent Aqib Talib, who has missed time with injuries, and Chris Harris is recovering from ACL surgery.

“Gilbert should go middle of the first. (Linebacker C.J.) Mosley will go anywhere from 8 to 21. Fuller is a possibility and not a probability. Verrett is an underrated player. A slot corner. You need three or four corners. The (corners) will be flying off the board,” Kiper told me.

+BRONCOS CR3W would be speechless if Gilbert or Fuller fall to 31 and really even Verrett. He may be 5'9" but this guy is going to be special as a DB in the +NFL, may he remain healthy and motivated. The best time in the 20 yard shuttle and his footwork in the video clearly stand out and he can make an impact whether he was in the slot vs TE, WR, or RB (pass catching agile, speedy ones like Jamaal Charles of the +Kansas City Chiefs) or he is left on an island vs the No. 2 WR option. If he is available, there are not any players, unless the deep WR class is the other option, that we expect to be of more value than Verrett. There are some very promising mid round prospects, but this guy is Top 15 ot Top 10 caliber talent in every variable that is measurable for a prospect.

Potential fit for safety and secondary for Denver Broncos, in Calvin Pryor, former Louisville Cardinals' Safety

"Looks the part" (in highlight reel, most should look as such) to be chosen, welcomed in Mile High for +Denver Broncos. +BRONCOS CR3W has no true idea what his stock sits at right now, but we would love to see him in ORANGE! We don't focus on draft stock until after combine and pro-days are being completed to be more accurate and fair to you, the reader and audience.

Another player of note off the top of my mind with lil' draft stock, deep expertise, but the names that were relevant over the college football season that are remembered regarding the positions that became thinned down over the season or became apparent as a position of need for the Broncos and more to come and follow. Kyle Fuller from +Virginia Tech in regards to first day draft potential... Tough to believe that Calvin Pryor will fall to 31 at this point but its a deep draft and how the Broncos address UFA as well.

One that had raw moments in college but has some serious size, 6'3" 215 for a cornerback; that's right, not a safety in that frame! And when/if developed properly could be an abysmal matchup for bigger physical type WR's, is Keith McGill from +UTES CR3W, +University of Utah Athletics for a 2nd Day pick. (Two staff members here have +Pac-12 Conference ties as +UTES CR3W alma mater aka Crimson Club).
